What is RC Soaring

I have been involved in flying all my life. So you want to try flying a glider. It is great
fun to launch a plane into the air and ride the thermals into the wild blue. I got stated
flying gliders at Torey Pines with a friend Paul Palmer. He showed me a four channel
radio, and a 2 meter sailplane and how the the controls worked. My comment was this
is very cool, so that afternoon we went out to the cliffs at Torey Pines.
Paul launched the plane off the cliff and I watch the sailplane gently rise in the air he then
showed how the controls worked and then handed me the control box. My heart started
to beat a little faster and my hands started to shake. I was hooked on flying sailplanes.
That very afternoon I was in a hobby shop buying a 2 meter sailplane and a four channel
radio, the assembly went together very well. The next week end was back toTory Pines
to do some more slope soaring. That week end they also had a slope contest which
would race between two points. Paul loved to fly in this event, his hands were shaking
and he did very well in the event, wow does his sailplane fly fast. When I got home to
Michigan I joined a club called the CARDS. Later we formed the club GLASS and
have been flying the thermals ever since.
